My name is Maddy Wirbel, I am a senior at Windermere High School and this is my fourth year being involved with Dance Marathon. During the past four years, Dance Marathon has truly become something I am very passionate about. Seeing the direct impact of the money our school has raised is something more incredible than words can explain. This year I have the incredible opportunity to be serving on the Dance Marathon Exec Board as Co-Event and Logistics. I am so excited for this year's Dance Marathon and I cannot wait to see you all there!

So what is Dance Marathon? Dance Marathon is a year long fundraising event, where we raise money for children in our local Winnie Palmer and Arnold Palmer hospitals. The event of Dance Marathon itself is a huge "party" at the end of the year (this year the event is on March 5th, 2022 so make sure you mark your calendars) to celebrate all that we have accomplished. During the event of Dance Marathon we don't dance the whole time, but you're totally welcomed to if that sounds like your jam, at Dance Marathon we stand for the entire duration of the event to feel just a fraction of the pain these kids feel each and every day.
Why do I raise money for Dance Marathon? My why is constantly evolving and changing, as there are so many reasons to raise money for Children's Miracle Network and Dance Marathon. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has made me realize how fortunate my family and I are for good health. I have four younger siblings (Gwen, Jos, James, and Kara) and the idea that some kids are unable to have a normal childhood due to illness breaks my heart. No kid deserves to worry about their health, and no parent deserves to watch their kid in pain without a cure. I raise money for Dance Marathon to help the families in the Winnie Palmer and Arnold Palmer hospitals feel supported, so they do not have to worry how they are going to pay for their hospital bills. I raise money for Dance Marathon so that one day there will be a cure and no kids have to face illness.
